David Juilleret

On April 26, 2024 Dave took his kayak and fishing pole out on the Big Pond to join the God of his understanding; a loving and caring God. Dave was born on September 9, 1937 at the mouth of the Bear River, the son of Lewis E. Jr. and Helen (Hott) Juilleret.

He lived in Harbor Springs until 1942 when his parents moved to Charlevoix for better fishing. They moved back to Harbor Springs in 1945 to help at Juilleret's Restaurant. In 1950 his parents bought the Coffee Cup in Charlevoix.

Dave graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1955, when he enlisted in the US Navy. He met the love of his life; Margaret Foley, on boot leave. They married on her graduation day: June 5, 1957. Together they raised three wonderful children.  Margaret passed away October 14, 1991 with breast cancer. Dave met Eileen Nunemaker in 1992 and they married on July 4, 1992.

Dave had 3 passions in life: family, fishing, and serving good food. He got to live out all three of them to the fullest. He made great family memories and met a lot of great friends in the restaurant, which he sold in 1988. His restaurant was known for cinnamon bread trench toast, the "catch of the day", and a friendly place for a cup of coffee. He spent as many hours as possible on the water fishing.

Dave was very community oriented. He served on the Chamber of Commerce with Wally Loder and was an integral part of the first fishing contest in Charlevoix, which later became known as the Charlevoix Brown Trout Tournament. Dave served as the president of the Lake Charlevoix Area Trout Tournament for several years. They had six schools raising salmon and was able to award several scholarships over the years. He also helped build the Miss Charlevoix Queen's float and saw that it got in all the parades around Northern Michigan.    He brought the Queen's Contest back with Margaret's help. He served as the President of the Band Boosters under "Odie" and "Stutz", which brought him to Lambeau Field at one point to watch the Packers beat the Bears. He organized carwashes for little league and sponsored one of the first teams in town.

In 1984 Dave was introduced to Bill W. and the twelve steps to recovery. He followed the program to the best of his ability and stayed sober until his last days. He also served the community as a sponsor to many.

Dave is survived by his three children: Becky (Jeff) Resch, Dan (Carol) Juilleret of Charlevoix, and Jennifer (Charles} Montgomery of Utah. His grandchildren: Heather (Max} Bergeron, Sierra Montgomery, and Armani Montgomery; great grandchildren: Ava Bergeron and Elijah Montgomery; sister: Nancy Foster; step-children: Larry (Chris) Nunemaker and Barb (Tracy) Penfold; step-grandson: Dylan (Jazmine Ocanas) Nunemaker; step-granddaughter: Sabrina Nunemaker; many nieces and nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Lewis and Helen Juilleret; his first wife: Margaret Juilleret; his second wife: Eileen Juilleret; mother-in-law and father-in-law: Larry and Lark Foley; his half brother and sister; brother-in-law: Jerry Foster; brother-in-law:  William  Mosier; brother-in-law and sister-in law: Herb and Mary Hilliker; sister-in-law: Lorah Foley; nephew: William (Skip) Mosier, niece: Julia Hilliker-Rungren, brother-in-law: Cal and Terry Sorgatt; and Larry and Leslie.
