Daralinea Walters

Daralinea Marie Walters passed away peacefully at her home on October 7, 2020 while surrounded by her loving family, after suffering from a heart attack and a stroke.

She was a devoted wife to Bernard and a dear mother to Matthew, Herman, Bernadett (Gordie) Pons and Patrick (Holly).

Daralinea was born on June 25, 1940 to Owen and Cecelia (Richards) Swainston and raised on a farm in Kingsley.  She graduated salutatorian from Kingsley High School, class of 1958.

On August 30, 1958 she married the love of her life, Ben.  They traveled to California but with an ache in their hearts came back to Michigan, lived in northern Michigan for some time and eventually moved to Milan, where they raised their four children.  Daralina worked as a secretary for Ypsilanti schools and then for the State of Michigan Forensic Center, where she retired.

She was an avid reader, exceptional seamstress, baker and a phenomenal cook.  She loved to entertain, dance and play cards.  In retirement, she and Ben traveled the U.S. and Canada.  They spent most winters in Scottsdale, Arizona and enjoyed many good friendships.  Finally after many adventures they settled back up north to Elk Rapids, where she enjoyed her family and being a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Daralinea was preceded in death by her parents; and three sisters, Gladys, Emma, and Wanita.

She is survived by her husband; her children; seven grandchildren Jennifer Pons, Justin (Sherri) Walters, Julie (Jeremey) Horrighs, Tyler (Hillary) Pons, Chelsea Walters, Gabrielle Walters and Griffin Walters; 10 great-grandchildren, Ethan, Xander, Laila, Blake, Warren, Ryan, Aubree, Maddison, Paisley, and baby boy Pons on the way; and special friends Lady and Violet.

Visitation will be Friday, October 9th from 5 to 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Elk Rapids with a Vigil and Rosary for the Deceased at 7 p.m.  Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 10th with Rev. Robert J. Zuchowski presiding also at the church.  The mass will be live streamed at sacredheartelkrapids.org.  Memorial contributions can be made to Eternal World Television Network (EWTN), 5817 Old Leeds Rd, Irondale, AL 35210.
