Clayton Denny

Clayton LeRoy Denny, 72, of Ellsworth, passed away January 9, 2020 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, MI. Clayton was born April 9, 1947 in Charlevoix, MI to Earl Denny and Katherine (Himebauch) Denny.

Clayton was raised in Ellsworth, and lived his last years at his family home.  He was a tinkerer and fixer of all things.  He loved fishing, hunting, and a good poker game.  Along with spending each night sitting in his favorite chair, with Henry watching the Detroit Red Wings.

In 1968 Clayton served in the United States Army in Vietnam, and eventually succumbed to the effects of Agent Orange and pneumonia on January 9, 2020.

Surviving Clayton are his wife of 42 years, Gail (Persons) Denny of Ellsworth, MI, the very best kitty in the whole world Henry (Oscar), daughter Kathy Brown of Boyne City, MI, grandchildren Heather, Cody, and Savannah, and great-grandchildren Antonio and Ayla. Also surviving Clayton are his brother Gordon (late wife Kathleen) Denny of Ellsworth, MI, sisters Carolyn (Larry) Brock and Sherry L. Denny, both of Tennessee.  Best friend and brother-in-law Steve (Carol) Persons of Boyne City, MI, brothers-in-law Ron (Donna) Persons of East Jordan, and Tom (Joyce) Persons of Central Lake, MI, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Clayton was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Katherine Denny, brother and sister-in-law Dick and Marlene Denny, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law James and Sherri Persons.

Visitation will take place Sunday, January 12, 2020  from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the Hastings Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.  A light luncheon will follow at the Ellsworth Wesleyan Church, 6339 Elm St., Ellsworth, MI 49729.

Memorial contributions in honor of Clayton may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
