Claribel Mason

Claribel Mason, 96, of East Jordan, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 13, 2021.  She was born on March 4, 1925 in Gaylord, MI, the daughter of Dan and Grace (Gemmill) McAllister.

Claribel met the love of her life, and shortly thereafter she married Francis Mason on July 18, 1944.  They raised their family together in Grand Haven for 37 years before moving permanently to Northern Michigan in September of 1981 when Francis retired from the Howard Miller Clock Company.

Claribel was a devoted wife and mother to her family.  She served the Lord each and every day with a faith that never wavered – many people knew her as a prayer warrior.  She was an ordained Pentecostal Minister, and she and Francis planted seven Pentecostal Churches.  She enjoyed sewing, embroidery, and writing as well.

Claribel is survived by her eight children, Ray (Colleen) Mason of Ellsworth, Grace Ann (Richard) Jurges of Rockford, Fran Mason of East Jordan, Joseph Mason of East Jordan, Ruth (John) Gardner of Clare, Sharon Mason-Smith of New Mexico, Larry (Karen) Mason of Delaware, and Mary Lynn Mason of East Jordan; 23 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and 28 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Francis Mason; her infant daughter; her parents, Dan and Grace McAllister; her brother, Lloyd McAllister; and two sisters, Grace (Henry) Meinecke and Lottie (Harry) Mason.

Claribel’s home going celebration will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Freedom House Ministries, 6429 M-66, Charlevoix, MI 49720 with Paul Bradley Officating, and Aart DeHeer Ministering.  Visitation will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 15 at the Charlevoix Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Claribel’s children.

Arrangements are in the care of the Winchester Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.  Please sign her online guestbook at www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com
