Christopher John James Fiedrich, 77, of Bellaire, passed away on October 8, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with bone marrow cancer. He was born on April 11, 1948, in Highland Park, Michigan, the son of William and Violet (Grill) Fiedrich Jr. He grew up in South Lyon, Michigan, where he met the love of his life, Vickie, while attending South Lyon High School. Chris and Vickie were married for 57 years and raised two sons together, whom he loved and guided with his whole, unselfish heart.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a scout dog handler, walking point to clear the way for other ground troops. After his service, he worked for several companies, gradually progressing to manufacturing manager and vice president. Outside of work, he enjoyed cross-country skiing and boating with friends and family. After raising their sons, he and Vickie explored the Great Lakes by boat, visiting and exploring many islands. In retirement, Chris and Vickie made their home in Bellaire, Michigan, to enjoy the quiet and solitude of his beloved northern woods.
Chris was a humble and hardworking man who often described himself as “just a welder,” but those who knew him saw an artist — a craftsman whose hands and heart brought beauty to both wood and metal. Every neighbor, friend, and relative has gifts lovingly made by his hands.
A man of faith, Chris was a lifelong Lutheran and an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in South Lyon, Prince of Peace in Howell, and Our Savior in Gaylord.
Chris is survived by his loving wife, Vickie; sons Christopher John James Jr. (Jackie) of Shelby Township and David William (Sophie) of Brighton Township; sister Barbara Gellatly of Raleigh, North Carolina; and three grandchildren — Parker, Douglas (Lyla), and Allie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William (Bill).
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, November 1, at 1:00 p.m., at Our Savior Church, 128 W. Fifth St., Gaylord.
In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to the Michigan War Dog Memorial, 25805 Milford Road, South Lyon, MI, or to Our Savior Lutheran Church, 128 W 5th Street, Gaylord, Mi 49735
