Charles “Chuck” Leonard Scherping, 81, of Charlevoix, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. He was born on December 27, 1943, in Saginaw, MI, the son of Delos and Ruth (Caster) Scherping.
Chuck graduated from high school and enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, earning the rank of Airman 2nd Class, working as a radio specialist. When he wasn’t working, Chuck spent much of his time as a flight instructor at the Charlevoix Municipal Airport; he loved flying and even built his own airplane. He also enjoyed golfing, and watching his favorites on TV; Star Trek, Gunsmoke, and Fox News.
He is survived by four nieces and nephews, Jeff (Lori) Fallis, Susan (Joe) Amaro, Dave Fallis, and John (Lisa) Fallis, and his closest friends, Marc Lame, Jim Eisley, Bob Timms.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his two sisters Carole Fallis and Billie Thrall.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Chuck will be laid to rest in the family plot at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Saginaw.
