Carol Burke

Carol Jean Burke, of Bellaire, Michigan, passed away on September 15, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on May 12, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan to Dorothy and James Connor, Carol lived a life full of purpose, warmth, and joy.

Raised primarily in Detroit, Carol attended Mercy High School and went on to earn her teaching degree at the University of Detroit. Carol spent many years as a lifeguard at Plum Hollow Country Club where her love of the water was shaped. She wanted to be a teacher from a very early age and spent over 25 years teaching kindergarten in Catholic Schools. She was extremely proud of teaching hundreds of children to read under the guidance of her loving and gentle spirit.

Carol married and built a family that meant everything to her. Together she and her husband raised three children, and family remained at the very heart of her life. She was, above all else, a devoted grandmother who cherished her seven grandchildren more than words could say. She delighted in introducing each of them to the beauty and adventure of Northern Michigan, sharing with them the places and moments she held dear.

Some of Carol's happiest hours were spent on the porch of her cottage on Intermediate Lake. From early morning coffee to family meals and games with her grandchildren, her “little yellow porch” brought a legacy of love and laughter to her entire family.

A woman of faith, Carol found comfort and strength in her Catholic beliefs. Those who knew her trust that she has now been welcomed into the loving arms of her Lord, and is currently celebrating with the many family members and friends who have proceeded her in this life.

Carol's legacy lives on in the students she taught, the children she raised, and the grandchildren she adored. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Her family invites all who loved her to celebrate a life well lived. A celebration of life will be held in July of 2027.

Carol is survived by her son, Thomas Burke (Resa), her daughters, Sheila Menn (Buddy) and Patti Hughes (Flynt) and her seven beloved grandchildren, Megan, Cameron and Graham Burke; Henry and Caroline Menn; Conor and Lauchlin Hughes, who will carry forward the memories she so lovingly created for them.
