Bernice Warner

Bernice Elizabeth Warner, 95, of Charlevoix, passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan. She was born on October 21, 1930, in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Joseph Stone and Beatrice (Osier) Checque.

On May 3, 1949, Bernice married Doyle Lewis Warner, and they settled down on the old Charles and Emma (Brown) Warner farm. There, they raised nine children together.

Bernice was always singing at weddings, doing karaoke, and dancing up a storm any chance she could. She was a longtime member of the Red Hat Ladies of Charlevoix, Ladies of the Night with the Epsilon Jazz Band, and the Michigan Women’s Bowling Association. She also helped run the Miss Northwest Beauty Pageants for many years. At the age of 73, she went back to school and got her diploma from Charlevoix High School.

Bernice is survived by her children, Kenneth Warner of Charlevoix, Donna (Mark) Cross of Charlevoix, Patti (Terry) Left of Charlevoix, Brian Warner of Charlevoix, Kelly Warner of Charlevoix, Bradley Warner of East Jordan, and Melissa Shay of Florida; her daughter-in-law, Kitty (Gill) Warner; 16 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Doyle Lewis Warner; two sons, Doyle Everett Warner and Gary Lee Warner; her grandson, Doyle Kevin Warner; her daughter-in-law, Debbie (McLouth) Warner; her son-in-law, Todd Shay; and 4 great-grandchildren, Fenway O’Neal , David Andrew Sedlock , Destonies Jenkins ,and Angel Pitones.

A funeral mass will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 29, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Charlevoix with Fr. Peter Wigton officiating.  Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until mass begins at 1:00.  Bernice will be laid to rest in Barnard Cemetery next to her husband.
