Bernice C. Baker

Today, we gather with heavy hearts to honor and remember an extraordinary woman-my mother Bernice Baker. Though our grief is deep, it is matched by the profound gratitude we feel for having been loved by someone as strong, pious, kind, and generous as she was.

My mother loved God above all else. Her faith was not just something she practiced-it was something she lived. It shaped her words, her decisions, and the quiet strength she carried through every season of her life. That love of God flowed outward from her like a river: steady, constant, and life-giving. She poured it into her family, her friends, and every soul fortunate enough to cross her path. She was the kind of person who made people feel seen, valued, and safe. A good mother-patient, wise, and gentle. A faithful friend who listened without judgment. A confidant who could hold your fears and hopes with tenderness. Her generosity wasn't just in what she gave, but in how she gave-openly, freely, with a heart full of compassion.

She taught us that strength is not loud, but steady; that kindness is not weakness, but courage; and that faith can be a light even in the darkest moments. Today, as we mourn her physical absence, we also carry the blessing of her spirit—a spirit that shaped our family, uplifted countless others, and will continue to guide us.Her legacy is love. A love grounded in God, rooted in service, expressed through actions big and small. And though she has gone home to the One she loved most, her presence remains-with every lesson she taught, every kindness she offered, every memory she gave us.We thank God for her life, for her love, and for the privilege of calling her our mother. May her soul rest in eternal peace, embraced by the love she so faithfully lived. She will be missed and remembered fondly.

Bernice is survived by her children; Mary Jo McFalls and Jim Baker, grandchildren; Scott McFalls, Ellie (Brent) La Count, Christian McFalls, and Brooke Baker (Nathaniel), great-grandchildren; Paisley Hope McFalls, Brayden Russell, Gabriel Levens, Kye La Count, and Payton Campbell.
