Audrey Hamminga

Audrey Louise Hamminga, 90, of Kewadin, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at her home surrounded by loved ones. She was born on November 19, 1935, in Mendon, MI, the daughter of Leon and Gladys Hoover.

Audrey married the love of her life, Garrett Hamminga, on April 17, 1952, in Mendon. They went on to have five sons and moved to the Elk Rapids area in 1969 to raise them up north. After Garrett retired, they enjoyed traveling all over the United States with their fifth wheel in tow.

Audrey loved tending to her flower gardens around her house, and she always made sure to remove every weed that showed up. She kept her house just as clean as her gardens and ran the vacuum any chance she could. She also enjoyed reading and playing Bunko or other card games with friends.

Audrey is survived by three sons, Timothy Hamminga of California, Ricky Hamminga of Karlin, Randy (Beth) Hamminga of Kewadin; 11 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Garrett Hamminga; two sons, Steven Hamminga and Garrett Hamminga Jr.; two brothers, Robert Hoover and Walter Hoover; and two sisters, Edna Shimp and Barbara Moyer.

Audrey’s family will celebrate her life privately.
