Adam McCully

ADAM McCULLY 83, of Clam Lake, died peacefully with his family by his side on February 2, 2007 at his home. He was born on July 13, 1923 in Detroit, the son of Adam M. and Harriet (McFadden) McCully. Adam was a paper boy for the Detroit News and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy in World War II aboard the Battleship Iowa. He attended Western Michigan University in Navy Officers Training and transferred to the University of Michigan where he received his BA in 1947. In 1947, he started his own business, McCully Egg Company, in Detroit. He and his brother Bill, expanded the business to include branches in Liberty Center, OH, Grand Rapids and Kalkaska. After retirement he and his wife Gerry spent winters in Lakeland, Fla., and summered at Clam Lake. He was a member of the VFW and the Elks Club in Lakeland. He returned to Clam Lake and was a member of the VFW in Alden and then Kalkaska for the last 15 years. On June 29, 1946 in Kalamazoo, he married Geraldine Carley who survives. Also surviving are his children, Thomas John (Paula) McCully, Harriet Irene (Michael) Parsons, Adam Dale (Deb) McCully, Carolyn Sue (Dan) McGlinn, 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Memorial services will take place on Monday, Feb. 5, 2007 at Eleven a.m. at the Alden United Methodist Church where he was a member. Pastor Chuck Williams will officiate. Interment will take place in Helena Township Cemetery in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alden United Methodist Church or to Munson Hospice.
